The lambing season is one of my favourite times on the farm and I love to walk around the fields and see the new births. No matter how many times I see it, the birth of a lamb is always special and seeing the new lambs playing with their friends in the fields is positively joyous.

Now that autumn is upon us it’s time to relax and spend the evenings indoors and making warm, filling, home-cooked meals and enjoy the simple pleasure of eating a meal with those that you love. We asked Kara Letts, entrepreneur, mother of 3 and owner of the Orangery sustainable farm and estate retreat, what she likes to cook, and she has provided a selection of her favourite inspiring yet simple recipes that you can easily cook at home for yourself.
Since it was established in 1740, The Orangery has been working to combine man-made beauty with nature. Putting nature first is, for us, a lifestyle choice and the secret to the quality of all our products. At our online shop customers from all walks of life can bring a bit of the Orangery’s magic into their own homes.
Devon-based luxury estate retreat, The Orangery, is now home to a working rare breed farm, where animals are brought up in a natural environment in which they happily thrive. The result is animals that live a good life and provide a product of exceptional quality.
Raised to follow in his father’s footsteps, Philip was expected, per family tradition, to become the CEO of his family’s 200-year-old company, the ubiquitous Letts Diary. But early in his career, he was given a tech project to implement, and he was hooked by technology. He branched out to create one of the first online publishing firms and followed that with a successful string of companies that developed new technologies and business processes. He’s known as an entrepreneur who works at the cutting edge of internet technologies and online innovations.
His latest passion project, however, is building an estate retreat at the Orangery. The Georgian estate, with its Capability Brown garden and lake, rare breed farm, magnificent views and bewitching Lakehouse is a true labour of love. It is now open for short stays, occasional events and private functions. Below Philip talks about the Orangery, leadership, entrepreneurship and start-ups:
